Another Christmas

I love it, I really do!  So, Merry Christmas to everyone out there. I love this waiting in the office for the boss to send us home early.  I love all the "see you next year" goodbyes as we leave for the day. I love the Christmas Eve rituals in my house, taking the kids to Panto, getting the presents from the loft (only to hide them in the garage, so we can move them again later), the annual pizza supper and the crappy TV.   I do, I love it. and I love Christmas Day, for I am always full of good will.  I am. So once more, Merry Christmas to all of you, and have the best New Year your circumstances allow!

What have I done?

I've signed up to do a Triathlon, that's what I've done. Good news is I can do the swim. 400m this morning in just under 10 minutes. That'll do for now. But the bike? The run? I have till 3rd October, so I guess I'd better start some training. Need a goal. OK finishing is number one, but finishing in under 2 hours is number 2 for now. Will revise as the training develops, or doesn't develop. There will be the opportunity for people to give generously to a great charity to encourage me not to give up. Details later!!

The Hazards of Love

Image
The Hazards of Love A concept album, words to strike aural terror into most people, including yours truly in normal circumstances.  But when I heard The Rake's Song (a chilling, thrilling tale of multiple filicide) for the first time, I didn't know that the album which had spewed it forth was a concept deal. But what a concept, love, murder, kidnap all wrapped up in a 21st century folk-rock package to die for.  Not for the feint-hearted, but for anyone who likes a bit of meat (albeit dripping wwith blood) with their music!

Who voted for a hung parliament?

Is it just me? I'm being told by politicians, journalists, commentators that I/we have spoken and that I/we have decided we don't want a single party with a majority, we want a new kind of politics. What utter, utter rubbish. I and I'm sure most of you, voted for the party we want to govern. Just because we all have different ideas on who that should be doesn't mean we want a new kind of politics (as it happens I do, but how they read that from a single cross in a single box is beyond me!). We haven't suddenly developed a collective conscience and voted as an amorphous mass. That's all, just needed to get that off my chest!

Election Blues

Image
Is it just me fed up with the election already. Frankly and I hate to say this, fed up with politics in general. I'm longing for a conviction politician to tell me just how shitty it's going to be for the next few years and just how much it's going to cost me personally to bail out the failed banks. Is it only me who said let them fail, let us build again from scratch. No, I don't want to live in a mud hut without electricity, but for crying out loud there must have been another way. Anyway, it's done. but please, I'm not a kid. Stop telling me what you think I want to hear, tell me what you think. Tell me what you believe we need. What do you believe in? You'd better have an answer before you come knocking on my door between now and May 6th. If you can't answer that, you'll get very short shrift from me, I don't care what party you're from. You've been warned suckers!

Don't you dare preach at me

Don't preach at me, don't bully me, don't tell me what to do or feel about Haiti or any other human suffering for that matter, and let's face it there's plenty. By all means ask me to contribute/donate/help. Just don't you ever judge me or treat me like I'm the cause of the suffering because you suspect I may not have donated. I might choose to look away, I might not. I might choose to give, I might not. i will definitely choose to hope, and to give silent thanks to those on the ground desperately trying to bring to relief to those poor wretched lives. I'm big on empathy. I can do empathy till the cows come home. The rest is my business, between me and my conscience. Let's leave it that way, back off buddy!
